Thank you for joining us, Jiapeng. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi everyone, I’m Jiapeng Xiang from China, currently based in New York City, where I work as a colorist and film director. My filmmaking is deeply influenced by fine art, and I convey my stories through the lens of artistry.

What brings you to art? Do you have any specific themes in your projects?
The impulse for self-expression led me to the world of art. The raw materials for my films stem from my own experiences, reflections, and observations of those around me.
What is the most exciting thing you’ve done or accomplished so far?
One of my most fulfilling achievements to date is the color grading for the short film “Flower.” Collaborating with a professional team was akin to a breath of fresh air. They possess a clear vision, understand how to attain it, and provide me with ample opportunities to explore diverse styles in the grading process. Trust and support, I believe, are the most gratifying aspects one can offer.

What does “community” mean to you? How do you see yourself in a community?
Community holds various meanings for me; it encompasses those I enjoy spending time with, individuals I trust unequivocally, and those whom I genuinely believe deserve more. I see myself as a community advocate, finding satisfaction in connecting people, presenting them with opportunities, and being a supportive listener when they need a sounding board.

What are you working on right now?
I’m currently immersed in several projects, where I engage in color grading for films and commercials, scriptwriting, and directing. My primary focus at the moment revolves around a short film I’m writing, delving into the intricacies of affiliation within a romantic relationship.

Do you have any advice that you would offer to others?
My advice is to discover your passion and invest hours in it. There are no shortcuts to gaining recognition; in the end, your efforts will speak for themselves, and people will take notice.
