(New York, NY) The boundary-pushing independent short film HÓNG, produced by Chinese-American fashion designer Kun Hong and director Xiao Han, is set to premiere publicly for the first time at 394 Broadway, New York, NY 10013 on September 7th, 2024. This imaginative short film personifies the idea of Chinese feminism, exploring what it means to express and create in an ever-changing cultural and political backdrop.
HÓNG is an inter-spatial and inter-generational story that operates within a collective conscience. An unnamed protagonist is reluctantly pushed into a liminal space where the bedrock of her existence—time, personhood, ideologies—are destabilized. As she navigates across different stages of her life, she is forced to reckon with the limits of her “liberated” femininity, and what that means for generations both past and future.
Designer and artist Kun Hong, known for her innovative and multi-disciplinary approach, found a kindred spirit in director Xiao Han, working symbiotically to inspire one another’s artistic vision. Through HÓNG, the creative duo hopes to challenge the formats and boundaries of fashion, film, and activist art. “HÓNG is an experimental, collaborative project that pushes expectations for what fashion films can offer,” said Kun Hong.
