Art Show | One Hundred Years of Solitude: Solo Exhibition by Deng Xiao at VillageOneArt

Poster credit: VillageOneArt

(New York, NY) VillageOneArt is pleased to present Deng Xiao’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude” on view at the gallery from mid-September 2025. For this, the artist’s second solo exhibit with the gallery, the artist’s works align with literary themes presented in these powerful paintings such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ One Hundred Years of Solitude: the titular artwork. The lush, delicately rendered imagery present in this suite of works skillfully alludes to classical paintings such as those created in the Northern European Renaissance tradition while adding a nod to 20th century Surrealist artists. The artist’s ability to paint his fantastical scenes realistically correlates to the depth with which he explores the themes covered in this literary body of work. With works such as “One Hundred Years of Solitude” the artist translates emotions as pictorial narratives in the same vein as the authors whose novels he is referencing. The artist observes this range of emotion present in his works, offering a reflection on the range of ideals that solitude can express with,“the solitude of power, the solitude of love, the solitude of desire, the solitude of ideals” all encompassed in this composition. Reviewing the fantastical scenes present in his paintings, he notes that the more incredible aspects of his works can point to, “..the cycles of history and their futility.” Visitors encountering this inimitable body of work will be able to explore an exceptional modern painter whose talents translate inner and imagined worlds with skilled brushstrokes. The exhibit is not to be missed for fans of painting that remains contemporary yet classical.
